We have lived in this house for 30 years, raised 4 children and it was time for a change! We have completed the exterior and almost finished with the ground floor. The upstairs remains 1980's style...... until next year! We still have some crown moulding to do and a few other things to finish. At the end of this blog are pictures of a house we tore down several years ago that was given to use by Steve and Rosa Tanner (they were going to burn it down!). We intended to use the lumber to build a cabin by the pond, but decided to go ahead and use some of it this in this house and glad we did! We took the floor joist and trusses and had them cut into tongue and groove flooring, used one of the short beams for the fireplace mantel and used the doors and posts to make our headboard. Many thanks to Chuck Williamson from C & C Hardwood (our expert antique floor guy) for putting up with my many demands! I think he is as proud of it as I am. He not only had to glue these boards to the concrete floor (not a fun thing...very messy) he also built the stairwell (making the steps from same pine flooring), made all the thresholds (including one for the front door out of a thick old board we had) and made the handrail out of an old 20 ft. truss..... after I couldn't find one I liked. We hope you enjoy these pictures and we appreciate your comments.
